Goal 13: Climate Action

Goal 13: Climate Action

Objective: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

The Targets

Why it matters: There isn’t a single country in the world that is not experiencing first-hand the drastic effects of climate change. Indeed, global warming (estimated to have caused average temperatures to increase 0.85°C in the last 200 years) has caused long-lasting changes to our climate system, which threatens irreversible consequences including natural disasters, diminished natural resources, etc.

Target 13.1: Strengthen resilience and adptive capacity to climate related disasters

Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.

Target 13.2: Integrate climate change measures into policies and planning

Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.

Target 13.3: Build knowledge and capacity to meet climate change

By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.

Target 13A: Implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

Target 13B: Promote mechanisms to raise capacity for climate planning and management

Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalised communities.
