Career Mobility

SAICA is committed to supporting professionals making a positive difference in the public sector. Career mobility is amongst the key factors professionals consider in making career choices, while "career progression and career incidents" is one of the pillars identified by government in its framework for professionalisation. SAICA recognises the need to assist government in the professionalisation of the sector, support the creation of a conducive environment for professionals, and for the sector to attract and retain top talent. Any negative perceptions that may be associated with employment in the sector pose a risk to the sector's ability to attract talent, but also deprives the private sector of different skills, competencies and talent that may add value to businesses. Ultimately, career mobility challenges and negative perceptions have a negative impact on the sustainable development of the South African economy and society as the best available and relevant skills may not be utilised where and when they are needed, in both the private and public sectors.
