Yunus Suleman CA(SA)
Yunus Suleman a CA(SA) has been a trail blazer in his career by starting to develop his business skills in his dad's general dealer store in a small suburb (Sydenham) in Durban. In view of the Group area's Act the people in the area were relocated to Phoenix resulting in his dad running a mobile shop in the township. Driving a truck to the township was no easy task during Yunus's university studies but he had no choice. He could not find articles of traineeship in Durban so had to relocate to Johannesburg to serve his traineeship. He qualified as a CA(SA) in 1986 and progressed with Arthur Andersen to become a Partner in 1991 and subsequently Managing Partner of the Audit Practice in Nigeria (1998-2000) and subsequently (2000) in South Africa. In 2002, Andersen and KPMG merged, and Yunus subsequently became the Chairman from 2007 until his retirement in 2015. He joined a number of Board's in 2015 and 2016 and then became the Chairman (June 2022) of Goldfields Limited (4th largest gold mining company in the world and winner of the Top 100 company (Sunday Times) in 2023); Chairman of Liberty Holdings Limited (March 2022) and Chairman of Albaraka Bank Limited in 2023.
