Theo Vermaak CA(SA)

Chartered Accountant (South Africa) since April 1998.

Theo Vermaak, a CA(SA), is passionate about learning, development, and the sustainability and regulation of the accounting profession. He has extensive experience in training and consulting for the accounting profession and business, specializing in financial and related reporting (for both public and private entities), ethics, audit strategy, and risk assessment. From 2015 to 2018, Theo chaired the Forum of Firms. Prior to that, he represented PKF International Limited and the mid-tier audit sector on the Transnational Auditors Committee of the Forum of Firms and IFAC. He also chaired the PKF International Professional Standards Committee. Additionally, he served on the SEC Practice Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants until August 2013.

His international experience includes consulting for a Unilever subsidiary in Kenya, providing consulting and training for PwC in Eastern Europe on the adoption of auditing software and processes, holding senior positions in the USA and South Africa, and delivering numerous speaking and training engagements across the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Theo’s areas of expertise include:

  • Developing and delivering training programs for the accounting profession and accountants in business
  • Consulting on the application of ethical principles
  • Expertise in auditing standards (ISA and US GAAS)
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS financial statement reviews
