Initial Test of Competence (ITC) changing to the Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC)

SAICA is committed to developing Chartered Accountants (CAs(SA)) who, at the point of entry to the profession, have the potential to be responsible leaders who behave ethically and create sustainable value for a wide range of stakeholders within an organisational context.

SAICA articulates what competencies a CA(SA) should have developed at the point of entry into the profession through the formulation of a Competency Framework (previously known as the “CA2025 project”, now known as the “CA of the Future”). SAICA first revamped its competency framework in 2021, following an extensive research and consultation process. Further updates were made to the Competency Framework and approved by the CA Professional Development Committee (CAPDC) in October 2023. Changes are made regularly to reflect the requirements of the market considering the ever-changing environment in which CAs(SA) work. Any changes made to the Competency Framework are carefully considered by various structures.

One of the spin-offs of the new Competency Framework and updated approach is that SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence (ITC) will be updated and will now be named the Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC), effective January 2025. Read more below.
