  • 18 July 2022 – RFP01/2022: Appointment of Consulting engineering firm in the field of technical security
  • 18 July 2022 – As previously communicated, SARS’ Registration, Licensing and Accreditation (RLA) team have embarked on an on-boarding process to re-register and re-licence existing clients into a new Registration, Licensing and Accreditation (RLA) System. To migrate your existing client types into the new updated RLA system, SARS requires your participation in the on-boarding process.

For more information, see our letter to Trade.

  • 18 July 2022 – Cargo reporters have historically registered for cargo reporting purposes using the manual (DA8) process.

On 20 April 2020, SARS launched a secure online Customs Trader Portal (CTP) to submit registration and licensing applications to Customs through eFiling. Initially, due to anticipated volumes, the use of this channel was restricted to new applications only.

For more information, see our letter to Trade.

  • 18 July 2022 – The mobile tax unit schedules for Limpopo have been revised.
  • 18 July 2022 – The following enhancements have been made to the eBooking appointment process:
  • Video appointments have been added as a channel for individuals for select appointment reasons.
  • Taxpayers can choose an appointment in any area. New notification messages have been added to prompt taxpayers to select an alternate Appointment Channel/Province/Branch if an appointment is not available for their original selection.
  • ‘Third Tax Number on Insolvency’ has been added to the list of appointment reasons for walk-in appointments and will only be available for selection by SARS staff and not on the website.
  • As a general rule, appointment slots cannot be selected for a date and time that is greater than 60 days from the current date or earlier than 48 hours from the current date. The 48-hour rule has been adjusted to assist branches with time to plan for the week’s appointments. If an eBooking is made on a Thursday after 4pm or on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the system will only allow the taxpayer to view and select available appointments from the Tuesday that follows. Public holidays are not counted when determining the 48-hour rule.

For more information, see the updated guide: Book an Appointment at a SARS Branch.

  • 18 July 2022 – You need to be aware of email and SMS scams, and so we’ve created a section on the website where we will post updates of any scams we have heard about. Similarly, we would like you to tell us about any emails you think are scams or phishing. To report or to get more information on phishing, please send an email to phishing@sars.gov.za or call the Fraud and Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 00 2870. To see all current SARS surveys, emails and SMSs, click here.

The latest scam is purporting to be an electronic statement from SARS, see the alert here.

  • 18 July 2022 – RFP 02/2022: Appointment of a VAT Refund Administrator
  • 15 July – The South African Revenue Service (SARS) would like to assure traders and travellers that it has put various contingency measures in place at land border posts to ensure minimal disruption during the current industrial action at SARS.

SARS will ensure that the following capabilities remain available throughout the duration of the industrial action:

  • The processing of declarations will continue as normal;
  • Physical inspections of goods will continue as normal, with inspection finalisation being centralised and managed on a 24-hour basis;
  • Trade has been engaged about temporary measures instituted in relation to the authorisation and management of SADC certificates of origin for cargo transported across land borders. A letter in this regard was published on the SARS website today
  • Border operations will proceed as normal with the available staff supported by a number of SARS officials deployed from Head Office and the regions. Clients are encouraged to make use of alternative ports should a need arise.

SARS endeavours to keep trade informed on any contingency planning relating to the strike and in order to ensure a seamless flow of trade. Please visit the SARS website regularly for updates on any SARS branches or border posts that may be closed: Latest on the SARS Industrial action impact | South African Revenue Service. Traders who have urgent issues or queries can send an email to OSC@sars.gov.za.

For more information, please contact SarsMedia@sars.gov.za
