Invitation: Discussion Forums regarding items on the IAASB Agenda

Professor Warren Maroun from Wits University was appointed as a member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) with effect from 1 January 2022. Adjunct Professor Yvette Lange, also from Wits University, is Professor Maroun’s technical advisor.

The South African auditing profession, therefore, continues to be in the very fortunate position of having direct access to standard-setting at IAASB level.

As part of their preparation for the quarterly IAASB board meetings, Professors Maroun and Lange are inviting practitioners and user groups (for example CFOs and audit committee members) to engage with them on matters that will be debated by the IAASB.  To this extent, they will be hosting online discussion forums where pertinent questions on the IAASB agenda will be discussed.

Timing, duration and format of the discussion forums
The discussion forums will take place a week before the start of each quarterly IAASB meeting and will be a maximum of 90 minutes duration. The forums will be conducted online on Microsoft Teams.  

Preparation for the discussion forums
Professors Maroun and Lange will be preparing short discussion papers that will be circulated prior to the forum dates to enable participants to prepare for the forums.

We are inviting our members to participate in these discussion forums. Your voice could shape future IAASB standards.

Discussion forum dates and times

Kindly confirm your interest in attending the forums by clicking the appropriate booking link below. It is not expected that invitees will necessarily attend every forum. Responses should reach us by:

• Friday, 3 June 2022 (for the 6 June 2022 forum)
• Friday, 26 August 2022 (For the 5 September 2022 forum)
• Friday, 18 November 2022 (For the 28 November 2022 forum)

If you have already indicated your interest in joining these forums through a different mechanism, such as responding to an invitation from SAICA Standards: Assurance, you do not need to complete the booking link. You only need to indicate your interest once to be invited to all future forums.
