SAICA condemns the attack on SARS advocate Coreth Naudé
Johannesburg, 22 July 2024 - The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) condemns in the strongest possible terms, the attempted assassination of Advocate Coreth Naudé, a senior advocate acting for the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in a tax inquiry.
This shocking act is an assault on the rule of law and an attempt to intimidate those who uphold it. SAICA stands in solidarity with SARS and all those who work to ensure that no one is above the law.
SAICA is also aware of the challenges faced by its members who have been victims of similar crimes while doing their jobs and acting in the public interest. SAICA calls on those in law enforcement to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators of this attack to justice.
SAICA CEO, Patricia Stock said: "We are deeply concerned by the attack on Advocate Naudé. This is a clear attempt to intimidate those who are working to uphold the law. SAICA stands with SARS and all those who are working to ensure that South Africa is a country where the rule of law prevails. Furthermore, we extend our thoughts to Advocate Naudé and her family during her time of recovery”.
