For the purpose of this communication, the word ‘rewrite’ refers to the opportunity afforded to all the candidates who experienced challenges during the 1 December 2021 APC to demonstrate competence via a special sitting of the APC.
- Dates for the APC 2021 rewrite in 2022
As previously communicated, the 2021 APC rewrite will take place at the end of March 2022 and is open to all candidates who wrote the December 2021 APC. Following various committee meetings to finalise the logistic arrangements for the rewrite, SAICA confirms that dates of the assessment are as follows:
- Release of the December 2021 APC results: Friday,
18 February 2022
- The 2021 APC rewrite: Wednesday, 30 March 2022
- Pre-release: Friday, 25 March 2022
- Online registration period for the rewrite: 22 February 2022 to 10 March 2022.
With regards to the release of the results of the 1 December 2021 APC sitting, kindly note that SAICA will only share results with the candidates individually. Firms and other stakeholders will not be informed of the results. Full results including statistics in this regard will be shared with all stakeholders following the communication of the APC rewrite results. The date for the release of the APC 2021 rewrite results will be shared with other stakeholders at a later stage.
- Eligibility for the APC 2021 rewrite
Under normal circumstances, SAICA offers only one APC sitting a year. However, the 30 March 2022 APC 2021 rewrite is offered to address the challenges experienced by candidates during the 1 December 2021 assessment. This means that only the following candidate groups will be allowed entry to the 30 March 2022 APC:
- All candidates who sat for the 1 December 2021 APC and opt in for the 30 March 2022 APC rewrite. Eligible candidates will need to register for the March APC sitting between 22 February and 10 March 2022 – no late registrations will be accepted. As previously communicated, SAICA will not levy an examination fee for the 30 March 2022 APC sitting.
- Candidates who, due to COVID-related issues, cancelled their APC registration and therefore were not able to write the 1 December 2021 APC will be contacted and offered an opportunity to register for the APC 2021 rewrite.
Candidates who were not eligible to write the APC on 1 December 2021 will not be allowed to write on 30 March 2022, regardless of the fact that they may have become eligible to sit for the APC between December 2021 and March 2022.
Eligible candidates will be allowed to enter the 30 March 2022 APC rewrite even if their Professional Programme certificate would have been considered invalid for the 2022 APC sitting. This is because the rewrite on 30 March 2022 will be treated in the same way as the original writing date of 1 December 2021. Therefore, if your Professional Programme certificate was valid for the 1 December 2021 APC sitting, it will still be valid for the 30 March 2022 APC sitting.
- Case study
Due to the extraordinary circumstances under which the candidates wrote the 1 December 2021 APC, SAICA’s Initial Professional Development Committee (IPD* Committee) and APC Exam Committee (APC Examco**) have also deemed it necessary to share the following high-level details regarding the APC 2021 rewrite case study with candidates.
Following the 1 December 2021 APC, a number of stakeholders suggested that SAICA would be using the 1 December 2021 case study for the rewrite and would simply change the information of the day and tasks.
Having deliberated at length on the matter, the APC Examco has decided that a new APC case study will be prepared for the APC 2021 rewrite. In arriving at this decision, the APC Examco and IPD Committee applied the APC principles of reliability, validity, equity, transparency and sufficiency to ensure the integrity of the APC 2021 rewrite.
- Access to and usage of laptops
SAICA will revert to a hybrid e-writing model as applied for APC sittings prior to the 1 December 2021 sitting. This means that candidates will be able to use their own or firm-provided laptops to write the APC. SAICA will hire laptops for those candidates who do not have access to laptops, as it has done previously. SAICA will shortly communicate with the various training offices to discuss the eWriting software compatibilities to ensure that this process is a smooth one. Once the 1 December 2021 APC results are released, candidates will be required to contact SAICA should they require SAICA to hire laptops for them. Candidates can contact SAICA at apc@saica.co.za.
As has been standard practice in the past, candidates writing the APC at international venues, except those who will be writing in London (United Kingdom), may be required to write manually. This is primarily because SAICA is not able to provide sufficient technical support at all other international venues.
- APC rewrite venues
SAICA is currently finalising venues for the APC rewrite. Venues will be finalised once the December 2021 APC results have been released. During the registration process candidates will be able to select the venues where they will sit for the rewrite. However, candidates who believe that they may require an international venue should contact SAICA at apc@saica.co.za at their earliest convenience so that SAICA can begin to make the appropriate arrangements.
The IPD Committee and APC Examco trust that this communication will assist APC candidates in making decisions regarding their APC rewrite as they await their results from the 1 December 2021 APC sitting.
If you require further information on the rewrite, please contact SAICA at apc@saica.co.za.
